Van Nistelrooy is currently in charge of Jong PSV
Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly being lined up as PSV Eindhoven’s next manager.
The Dutchman is currently in charge of Jong PSV – the club’s reserve side – having previously coached the Under 18 side for three years.
The 45-year-old, who has also worked as an assistant coach with the Netherlands national side, has never held a senior managerial role.
Van Nistelrooy tipped to replace outgoing manager Schmidt
Despite this, Dutch outlet ED are reporting that van Nistelrooy is the first choice candidate to replace outgoing manager Roger Schmidt.
German manager Schmidt confirmed that he would be leaving PSV at the end of the current season after failing to agree a new contract at Philips Stadium.
Van Nistelrooy reportedly has the support of Marcel Brands, the former Everton director of football, who will become PSV’s new chief executive in the summer.

It comes after the ex-striker appeared to rule himself out of the running to become Schmidt’s successor earlier this month.
“I can be clear about that now. I will not go through to the first-team of PSV,” van Nistelrooy told ESPN.
“I don’t think I’m ready for that yet. I think we should continue to follow the trajectory that we have agreed upon. The ambition and the drive are there, but it is too early now.”
Van Nistelrooy will be helped by an experienced assistant manager
The ED‘s report adds that should Van Nistelrooy take the job at PSV, the club he played for before his move to Manchester United in 20021, he would be assisted by a more experienced coach.
PSV currently sit two points behind Eredivisie league-leaders Ajax in the table, having accumulated 21 victories from their opening 27 matches.
The Dutch side will face-off against Leicester City in the quarter-final of the Europa Conference League next month.
