VAR replays will be shown on Wembley’s big screens this weekend

The Football Association have given the green light to show VAR replays to fans during this weekend’s FA Cup semi-finals.

VAR has been used in some FA Cup and Carabao Cup fixtures throughout this season and last, but fans inside the stadium have never before been able to see the replays.

This, however, is about to change. Sky Sports report that the FA will allow replays to be shown on Wembley’s big screens during the games between Manchester City and Brighton and Watford and Wolves.

The BBC provide more detail, saying the replays will be shown if a decision is overturned in either of the games. VAR’s decision will be shown first, followed swiftly by a ‘definite video clip’.

The development comes after some supporters in grounds complained that decisions were unclear. The FA say the move will provide “clarity” and “transparency” for those in attendance.

“The FA Cup has been at the forefront VAR testing process in England and this is the next step in its development,” Andy Ambler, the FA’s director of professional game relations, said.

The replays will also be shown to fans during the final on May 18.
