As far as unsuccessful spells go, Victor Valdes’ time at Manchester United is right up there.
The Barcelona legend has been put up for sale by manager Louis van Gaal, just six months after signing for the club.
Valdes refused to play in the reserves last season, according to the Dutchman, and was not selected to take part in United’s pre-season tour of the USA.
The 33-year-old made just two appearances for the Red Devils since signing in January after training with United in a bid to rehabilitate a knee injury.
“He doesn’t follow my philosophy,” van Gaal said. “There is no place for someone like that.”
If Valdes hadn’t already burned his bridges, he may have done since with a tweet posted seemingly in response to the manager’s comments.
The news means that Manchester United are likely to redouble their efforts to hang onto current number one David de Gea, who continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.
