Football managers are often criticised for playing their own children, but when the manager was one of the world’s finest players it’s a different story.
The great Gheorghe Hagi, known as the Maradona of the Carpathians in his playing days, is now in charge at FC Viitorul in his homeland of Romania.
Among the club’s current squad is Gheorghe’s son Ianis, and the 16-year-old struck his first goal in a match against Botosani.

Ianis shows great technique in adjusting his body to volley home with his right foot…not too shabby when you consider his father was a maestro with his left.
There are certain names which bring a smile to the face of any 1990s football fan, and Hagi is certainly one of them.
Football is a better place with a Hagi playing

With all the hype that tends to surround young players these days, how long until he is dubbed ‘The new Maradona of the Carpathians’?
If that strike has filled you with nostalgia, why not relive some of Gheorghe Hagi’s most memorable moments.
