This is not what you want to see on what is supposed to be a celebration of football.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s Europa League final between Liverpool and Sevilla in Basel, small groups of supporters came to blows close to the pitch.
Punches were thrown and missiles hurled between a minority of supporters that left some nursing lacerations to their heads.

Riot police were called in to separate the groups and hopefully this is the end of the violence in the stadium.

Earlier in the day, the atmosphere between both sets of supporters had been good natured.
Tens of thousands of Liverpool supporters have made the trip to Switzerland, outnumbering the fans of Sevilla considerably.
