Sometimes you can watch a young footballer and just know he’s going to make it.
Occasionally you’re wrong, of course (Freddy Adu, anyone?), but in the case of Memphis Depay it looks as though the talent was there from a very young age.
Footage has emerged of the Dutch international absolutely tearing it up for his youth football club VV Moordrecht at the age of just seven.
The first thing we noticed, aside from how small all the players look in relation to what seems to be a full-size ball, was the quality of Depay’s first touch. We might even go as far as saying it’s better than that of some members of the current Man United squad (naming no Radamels).
Among the highlights is a brilliant solo goal around the two-minute mark, but United fans will have to hope Louis van Gaal doesn’t look at the accomplished tackling and decide his compatriot is better suited to a role in front of the back four.
