1995 seems like a very long time ago.
This month, Michael Carrick has his testimonial, celebrating over a decade at Manchester United, and 18 years overall as a professional footballer.

However, this week footage has been unearthed that shows Carrick at a much earlier point in his career – way before he’d ever played a top level game. The clip is from a 1995 edition of the classic 90s Saturday morning kids’ show Live & Kicking, with a 13 year old Carrick playing for his local side Wallsend Boys Club.

Andi Peters says he’s “already been tipped as one of this country’s future footballing stars” – not an inaccurate prediction – and shows the fresh-faced Carrick wearing a Newcastle United shirt. His bedroom wall is also covered in Toon Army posters, with Peter Beardsley taking pride of place in the centre.
