David de Gea thanked the supporters after committing himself to Manchester United for the next four years.
Speaking to MUTV, the Spanish keeper admitted it had been an unsettling summer, but said he had remained calm and focused throughout.
“I would like to say ‘thank you’ to the fans for their support. They are always behind the team, behind all the club, and that’s amazing. I think we have one of the best sets of fans in the world.
“[There was] lots of speculation this summer but I kept doing my hard work. I’m relaxed and happy here and now have to look forward this season and we have to play well, win the games and hopefully we can win a trophy.
“It was a different summer, it’s true. But I kept my focus, kept calm and kept doing my hard work. I want to say ‘thank you’ to my team-mates as well, they’re fantastic team-mates, and I’m really happy to be with them again.”
