It’s official, the US women’s national soccer team have no Hope.
One of the most high profile football stories to emerge from States recently is the situation involving Hope Solo and the national team.
The veteran goalkeeper with 202 caps for the Stars and Stripes was slapped with a six month ban over her comments aimed at the Swedish national team after they knocked out the US in the Rio Olympics via penalty shootout. An emotional Solo criticised the Swede’s style of play, claiming that they took the cowards’ route to secure the victory over the runaway tournament favourites.
“We showed a lot of heart. We came back from a goal down, I’m very proud of this team. And I also think we played a bunch of cowards.”
“The best team did not win today, I strongly, firmly believe that.”
Shortly after receiving her ban, Solo was axed by her country over the comments, meaning her 17-year international career is now over.
Raw footage of the moment the shot-stopper found out about her contract termination has since surfaced online and it is clear that the news did not sit well with her.
“Six months suspension, no pay. Terminated contract… effective immediately.
“Seventeen f****** years and it’s over!”Â
