Yet again, Jesse Lingard came up with the goods for Manchester United… A sentence that might have seemed silly to say a year or two ago.
The 25-year-old was named United’s player of the month for December, and scored the second goal for them in the 2-0 victory at Everton on New Year’s Day.
This time, he helped book his team’s spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup after scoring a late winner against Derby County – a club for which he’d played on loan earlier in his career.
As is often the case with Lingard’s goals, this one was a screamer. Receiving the ball on the edge of the Derby area from a pass from Romelu Lukaku, he powered home a right-footed strike beyond Scott Carson, who could only watch it sail into the top corner.

United had been frustrated earlier in the game, striking the post on a number of occasions and forcing Carson in to making a number of saves.
After Lingard’s goal, Lukaku added a second to make absolutely sure of the win.
