Pick that one out.
Let’s be honest, the prospect of Middlesbrough hosting Watford won’t have excited many neutrals to the point where they struggled to sleep on Saturday night. With all the hype surrounding ‘Red Monday’, it was almost forgotten that this was the first of Sky’s televised matches on Sunday.
Neither side did much of note in a goalless first half but when the first goal of the match did arrive, it was well worth the wait – unless you’re a ‘Boro fan, that is.
The scorer was Watford defender Jose Holebas, who weighed in with his second goal of the season having scored in the 4-2 defeat of West Ham in September. And what a goal it was.
With Isaac Success’ penalty appeals proving *unsuccessful*, the ball fell kindly to Holebas on the edge of the area. The Greek lashed at the ball with his left foot, cutting across the ball so that in swerved away from the outstretched Victor Valdes and found its way into the top corner.
