De Ligt’s error saw England take the lead in Guimarães
Rightly so, we’ve been hearing plenty about Matthijs de Ligt lately.
One of the standout performers in Ajax’s march to a Champions League semi-final this season, the 19-year-old defender is one of the most in demand players in world football this summer, with several of Europe’s top clubs rumoured to be interested in signing him.
Despite his obvious quality, he didn’t have the best of starts to the Netherlands’ Uefa Nations League semi-final against England on Thursday.
With half an hour played in Guimarães, a clumsy tackle saw him bring down Marcus Rashford in the penalty area.
It’s a poor challenge from De Ligt and England capitalise!

Rashford dusted himself down to roll the spot-kick home to put England ahead soon after.
De Ligt is expected to leave Ajax this summer, with United one of several teams said to be in the hunt for his signature.
