We’re very aware that Thibaut Courtois’ main job is to keep the ball out of the net, but maybe they should occasionally let him try to do the opposite.
Thibaut Courtois is pretty damn good at his craft, to the point where you’ll see him being linked with a move away from Chelsea to Real Madrid crop up in just about every transfer gossip column.
He’s absolutely dominating the Premier League clean sheet table this season. At the time of writing, he’s sitting comfortably atop the charts with an impressive 11 games without conceding. He’s well ahead of three number ones sharing second spot with seven games – David de Gea, Fraser Forster and Hugo Lloris.
However, the lanky Belgian isn’t just a one-trick pony. While he’s been making highlight-reel saves week-in week-out, he’s been keeping a secret from the masses. He also has a left foot like a traction engine and he’s well able to use it.
Courtois shared a clip of him scoring an absolute cracker of a free kick while training for Chelsea. The scorcher from distance may have been a bit of a hit and hope effort, but you can’t deny the results. It has us wondering why they don’t let him take the odd set-piece in Cup games.
