Watford’s Behrami vomits on pitch during Everton game and just carries on

Sick as a parrot

We hope no one slipped in it.

Norovirus, sometimes known as winter vomiting bug, is doing the rounds once more. There have been reports of outbreaks in the North East and the Midlands area, and it is very unpleasant indeed. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting. abdominal cramps, and of course diarrhoea.

Not ideal for 90 minutes of physical exertion then. Professional footballers are certainly not immune to the virus and there was talk that Watford’s Valon Behrami had succumb to the nasty condition on Saturday. Indeed at the beginning of the second-half, the Swiss midfielder doubled over.

He was shown signalling to the medical staff and dry-heaving near the centre circle. Then the heaves became…not so dry. Sky Sports inadvertently broadcast the player throwing up on the Vicarage Road surface and looking decidedly worse for wear…

Amazingly, the pale-looking 31-year-old waved away suggestions that he should leave the pitch and for a substitute replacement and saw the game out. He soldiered on manfully as the Hornets beat the visitors by three goals to two.

What a trooper.
