The start Anthony Martial has made to his Manchester United career has surprised many.
Scoring four goals in his first four appearances for the club, the youngster caught the eye again in United’s home victory over Sunderland on Saturday.
Wayne Rooney was able to score his first league goal of the season thanks to great work from Martial, and the England captain praised him after the game.
“He’s been incredible,” Rooney told MUTV.
“He’s a 19-year-old lad who doesn’t speak English and has moved over from France with a young family, so we have to understand that.”
“He’ll be a big player for us throughout the season and in the future, but we need to let him enjoy his football and I’m sure he’ll bring magic moments for us.”
After ending his own wait for a Premier League goal, Rooney also added that he wasn’t concerned.
“I wasn’t worried. It’s my fifth goal of the season for United and I’ve scored for England, so it was just all about getting off the mark in the league.”
“Hopefully, everyone will concentrate on me playing my football now and I’ll enjoy it.”
