It’s human nature to get a little carried away with ourselves from time to time. Sometimes we can convince ourselves that moving mountains is an achievable feat.
Obviously, against-the-odds victories do happen, and that’s what often makes sport so enjoyable, but the odds exist for a reason – they’re aren’t defied nearly as often as they are adhered to.
David Gold’s heart was in the right place when he sent this emotional war cry for the Hammers to “get one (or five) back” on Manchester City ahead of their Premier League clash on Wednesday night. However, maybe if he had mulled it over a little bit, taken another swig of coffee, he may have opted to leave that one in the drafts folder.
Good morning Hammers fans I'm desperate for revenge after our 5-0 defeat in the FA cup to Manchester City. Good luck tonight. dg

As the odds predicted, City absolutely trounced West Ham in the much-maligned London stadium.
Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva and Gabriel Jesus gave City a 3-0 lead at half-time, before Yaya Toure’s second half penalty provided the game’s final goal.
The result meant that City are currently 12-1 up on West Ham on aggregate in all competitions this season, and fans couldn’t help but tear into Gold after his attempted inspirational message blew up in his face.
Payet would help…. oh wait

Well losing 4-0 would at least be a step in the right direction David.

Ooooo @davidgold revenge is sweet! The next time we play them we'll really embarrass them and let them only win 3-0. #whufc

He has since responded with his tail slightly between his legs.
We were beaten last night by one of the best teams in the world that cost hundreds of millions and they were at their very best. No shame dg
