West Ham fan had to be held back after entering pitch to confront Chelsea players

He got very close to the players

A West Ham United fan had to be restrained by stewards after seemingly attempting to confront Chelsea players during Monday night’s Premier League game.

The incident occurred during the first half of the Blues’ 2-1 win, just after Eden Hazard opened the scoring with a breakaway goal.

As the Belgian celebrated with his teammates, the supporter rushed from his seat in the home end and got within spitting distance of several Chelsea players.

Diego Costa, who scored Chelsea’s second goal, can be seen turning to face the fan before he was led away by London Stadium stewards.

Chelsea went 2-0 up early in the second half and withstood a late West Ham rally, with Manuel Lanzini’s goal from the hosts coming too late.

The scoreline matches that in the reverse fixture, which also saw Hazard and Costa get their names on the scoresheet.

Chelsea are once again 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, though Manchester City can narrow the gap with victory over Stoke City in their game in hand on Wednesday.

West Ham stay 11th after suffering their sixth home defeat of the season – double the number they recorded in the whole of the 2015/16 campaign.
