Why are Barcelona fans tweeting ‘Manita’ at their Real Madrid counterparts after El Clásico victory

Barcelona embarrassed Real Madrid on Sunday afternoon

Things went from bad to worse for the European champions and their beleaguered boss Julen Lopetegui as they suffered yet another league defeat at the hands of their arch rivals.

A hat-trick from Luis Suárez, with Philippe Coutinho and Arturo Vidal also getting in on the act, ensured that Barcelona cruised to a 5-1 victory.

This prompted many Barcelona fans to lord it over their Madrid counterparts by posting the phrase ‘manita’ on social media.

Deriving from the Spanish ‘la mano’, ‘manita’ translates to ‘little hand’ and is used when one team thrashes another by a 5-0 scoreline, each finger representing one goal ?

Gerard Piqué famously held five fingers up to the Real Madrid fans last time Barcelona put five goals past them in November 2010, and he did the same again today.

Technically a ‘manita’ is a 5-0 victory, but that did not stop Barça fans from using the phrase to rub salt in the wounds of their rivals on Sunday afternoon.
