Wyke collapsed during training earlier this week
Wigan Athletic player Charlie Wyke has ‘categorically’ confirmed that his collapse was not related to the Covid-19 vaccine, according to Wigan Today.
On Thursday, the Latics revealed that the striker ‘will not be available for selection for the immediate future’ after collapsing earlier this week before he was taken to hospital.
The League One club confirmed the 28-year-old was in a stable condition and was communicating with family and staff – adding that he would be monitored closely by an independent medical consultant and the club’s medical staff over the next few days.
The ex-Sunderland frontman was absent from Tuesday’s draw at Cambridge United, with Wigan saying it was due to illness.
Wyke’s last appearance for Leam Richardson’s side came in the FA Cup first-round replay win against Solihull Moors on 16 November.
He has scored five league goals in 15 league appearances this season, as well as registering two assists.

Following the club’s announcement regarding his collapse, a number of people took to social media to debate whether or not it could be related to the vaccine.
However, Wyke was quick to convey a message stating that his collapse had ‘categorically’ nothing to do with the vaccine.
The report adds that the 28-year-old has not been vaccinated, with the player receiving numerous negative Covid tests to date.
Wigan’s announcement about Wyke’s collapse comes just days after Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck collapsed in Sheffield United’s Championship win away at Reading on Tuesday night.
The Scotland international was stretchered off after receiving lengthy treatment on the pitch, after he fell to the ground unchallenged.
Fleck spent the night in the Royal Berkshire Hospital, but it was confirmed that he has since been allowed home.
