Ugo Ehiogu tragically passed away from a heart attack in 2017
When Ugo Ehiogu passed away in 2017 from a heart attack, it shook the footballing world. The former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough defender and then Tottenham youth coach was taken at the tender age of 44.
Tributes poured in from fans, players and managers. No-one had a negative word to say about him.
At that time, Will Miller, a Spurs youngster out on loan at Burton Albion was shaken by his passing, having grown so close to Ehiogu during their time at Tottenham together. A creative man – formerly a child actor – Miller created a moving tribute in the form of a song, Crash Landing.
He wrote the song with his brother just days after Ehiogu’s death, and shelved it for three years while he was still playing football.
Having quit the game for good at the age of 23, he has now released the track to the wider world.
Miller spoke to JOE about how the song helped him grieve and process complex emotions he was experiencing for the first time.
“He was a special person. He was a really amazing guy.”
