Controversially, David Luiz was allowed to continue playing with a bandage on his head, having emerged from the clash in a less serious condition than Jimenez. Many viewers objected, claiming the Premier League rules should stipulate that he is also made to be substituted to mitigate the chance of worsening a serious concussion.
Luiz was eventually replaced by Rob Holding at half time.
