Paul Pogba’s summer-long transfer saga has reminded us that some football fans will leave no stone unturned when searching for clues as to where a player’s future lies.
Before eventually signing up for a second stint at Old Trafford, every single one of the midfielder’s social media posts were scrutinised for clues as to where his future might lie. It even reached a stage where the Instagram posts of a chef in Los Angeles and some bloke that died Pogba’s hair were seen as credible sources.
Now back in United red, it seems not even the re-signing of the 23-year-old is enough to clench some United fans’ thirst for incoming big-money transfers.
On Tuesday, we told you how some United supporters had jokingly (at least we think they were joking) suggested that Jose Mourinho was plotting a move for Real Madrid’s Raphaël Varane following a tweet from Morgan Schneiderlin.
A matter of hours later, some United fans were getting excited by the latest tweet from Theo Griezmann, brother of Atletico Madrid striker, Antoine.
With the ink still drying on Pogba’s new contract at United, Theo tweeted an image of himself alongside Pogba. ‘See you at Old Trafford @paulpogba’, he added.

Not the biggest of deals when you consider that Theo has admitted in the past that he’s a United supporter, but did this stop some from speculating that it was a sign his brother was destined for Old Trafford? Of course it bloody didn’t.
Griezmann to Manchester United in 2017 is nailed on to happen, we will have Champions League and it's his dream move. Remember this tweet

At this point, let’s remember that Theo has a track record for fuelling rumours of a move to Manchester for his brother.
Over the last couple of years, he’s shared a number of United-related tweets – very often during transfer windows – which have prompted excitement amongst some of their supporters.
Only last April, he tweeted this, after United beat Aston Villa at Old Trafford, leading some to think a summer bid would be submitted to Atleti:
In an interview with Fichajes back in 2014, when the French international was still at Real Soceidad, Theo also admitted that he would love to see him move to Old Trafford in the future.
“Personally, I’d like to see him in England in the future. I am a fan of Manchester United, if he could go there, it would be class (laughs).”
Having completed Pogba’s signing, a move for Griezmann this summer is highly unlikely for United. But with some suggesting 34-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic may only be in Manchester for a year or two, there may well be a striking berth to fill in the near future.
