Patrice Evra’s time as a Marseille player is up.
The 36-year-old, who joined the Ligue 1 side from Juventus in January, has left the club by mutual consent following an incident which saw him aim a kick at one of the club’s supporters prior to a Europa League tie in Portugal last week.
Shortly before the news was confirmed, it was also announced that Evra would have to serve a seven-month ban from Uefa competitions and would have to pay a €10,000 fine.
It’s now unclear if the left back, who played for his national side in the European Championships last summer, will find a new club following Friday’s developments.
Perhaps predictably, however, news of him now becoming a free agent was enough to see some Manchester United supporters encouraging the club to re-sign him for a second stint at Old Trafford. Evra joined United from Monaco in 2006 and established himself as a permanent fixture for the club at left-back. By the time he left in 2014, he was a firm fans’ favourite.
Ignoring the fact that Evra might not be able to offer much to the club on the field now, plenty of United fans reacted to the news by urging him to return.
