Football fans, eh? Nowt if not predictable.
The Champions League group stage is coming to an end. For Chelsea, however, there’s still work to do.
Although already well-placed to get out of a group also containing AS Roma and Atletico Madrid, Antonio Conte’s men entered match day five knowing a win over Azerbaijan’s FK Qarabag would’ve made absolutely sure of this – regardless of what happened elsewhere.
But never mind the actual football bit. What about their opposition and their silly-sounding name?
Yep, Qarabag (in case you haven’t already noticed the 1,324,988 times the joke’s been made on Twitter), sounds a little bit like ‘carrier bag’, all the excuse needed for those aware of the game to bring out the 5p jokes again…
Do Chelsea fans need to pay 5p when they play carrier bag I mean qarabag

Interesting facts about Qarabag – following environmental concerns, as of next season they're changing their name to Qarabagforlife. Access to Qarabag was free until 2 years ago, when they began charging 5p for all Qarabag games, which at first proved a nuisance but seems ok now. https://t.co/vMbtBuDCbx

Like all good plastic carrier bags, perhaps it’s a good thing these jokes are being recycled. Perhaps not.
