9 games from E3 to get ridiculously excited about

Carl Anka

E3 is gaming’s biggest expo, playing host to the biggest news and game debuts from the videogame world.

The expo kicked off with an impressive day this Sunday, with loads of interesting tidbits for gamers to enjoy.

Here’s our look at some of the more impressive games from the first day at E3 2016.

FIFA 17

We’ve already had a long chinwag about the new FIFA game and its impressive new single player mode here, so we won’t waffle on for too long. Just know we’re rather excited about this, a proper story mode was at the top of our FIFA wishlist.

Battlefield 1

EA also wheeled out a brand new trailer for First World War shooter Battlefield 1. Boasting 64 player online multiplayer, the game will look to go head to head with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare for shooter of choice this winter.

Dishonoured 2

Corvo Attano and Emily are back for more steampunk tinged stealth action. The second Dishonoured (we spell it with a U here) looks all the good kinds of weird with chaotic combat and time travel elements. The first Dishonoured was one of the last great original games of the PS3/Xbox 360; here’s hoping the sequel builds on its promise.

Titanfall 2

You may remember the original Titanfall as the game Aaron Paul tried to sell you in that Xbox One advert. It was a fun first person shooter with loads of wall jumps that got dull a bit too quickly as it was so light on content. Titanfall 2 looks to remedy that by giving us a proper single player mode this time around. Titanfall’s gameplay was always sweet so we’re curious as to how this pans out.

Watch Dogs 2

Another game that got release just maybe a little bit too early for the Xbox One/PS4 was Watch Dogs. There was a lot of hype and promise about Ubisoft’s hacker cum sandbox game, but only some of it came off. Thankfully, Ubisoft are giving it another go in what looks to be a proper tech thriller in Watch Dogs 2. Here’s hoping it enjoys a jump in quality similar to how Assassins’ Creed did from 1 and 2.

Prey

FINALLY. A launch title for the Xbox 360. Aaaaallll the way back in 2006, the original Prey game was an inventive first person shooter set on a organic space ship. For years, gamers cried out for Prey 2, which unfortunately was quietly shelved sometime near the end of the 360’s lifespan. But now, Prey is back with another psychological shooter with a shedload of aliens. Count us in.

Mafia III

Sometimes described as “the thinking man’s Grand Theft Auto“, the Mafia games have always promised a gritty true crime realism to all that sandbox adventure. This time around you’ll play as Vietnam War veteran Lincoln Clay, out for revenge against the mobsters who killed his friends. Call this one M for Mature.

Skyrim Special Edition

Fus ro dah! A new updated version of Elder Scrolls V, for our shiny new consoles with mod support too? Oh Bethesda, you can be far too kind at times.

Quake Championship

One of the grandaddies of multiplayer shooters is back in Quake. Way back when, some of the JOE team spent entirely too much time playing Quake III on dial up internet, so the series return has us all worked up. The new DOOM is one of our favourite games of 2016, so if Quake can get anywhere near that level, we’ll be very happy gamers.
