It’s like they’re not even trying to be original at this stage.
If you’re all over social media like all the cool kids these days, then you’ll surely have noticed features that were once unique to Snapchat gradually popping up on Instagram over time.
Stories is the big one, of course, but it isn’t the only feature that Instagram have ‘borrowed’ from one of its biggest rivals and the adaptation of some of Snapchat’s most distinctive features shows no signs of stopping either.
On Tuesday, Instagram announced the introduction of face filters in the camera, which they describe as “an easy way to turn an ordinary selfie into something fun and entertaining”.
If the description itself doesn’t sound like something you’ve already seen and heard of before, then the pictures that accompany the introduction of the new feature on Instagram’s blog will only confirm that it’s almost a carbon copy of something that Snapchat users have been able to do for ages.
In fairness to Instagram, it’s not the only new feature they’ve introduced to the app, having also launched the ability for users to make videos that play in reverse with ‘Rewind’, new hashtag stickers and an eraser brush.

All of the updates are available as part of Instagram version 10.21 for iOS in the Apple App Store and for Android in Google Play.
Or on Snapchat already. Whichever you prefer.
