Tesla launches new ‘dog mode’ to keep your good boys safe in the car

Good news for good boys

The Elon Musk led electric car company Tesla is releasing a new ‘Dog Mode’ on its cars that will keep your doggos and/or puppers safe in the car whilst you are away.

They are updating their Cabin Overheat Protection feature they launched in 2016 so it can now keep dogs at a cool temperature whilst they wait for their owners.

The feature will also inform passersby – who might become concerned for the dog’s wellbeing if they aren’t sure if the car is running or the air conditioning on – that everything is OK and they don’t need to worry.

Elon Musk is a number of things, but fair play to him, you can’t say he doesn’t listen to his customers, as evidenced by the following short but sweet Twitter interaction from October last year:

Here are the release notes for the ‘Dog Mode’ feature:

“Keep your dog comfortable in your car while letting people passing by know they don’t need to worry with Dog Mode. In addition to keeping the climate control on, the touchscreen will display the current cabin temperature. To enable Dog Mode, tap the fan icon at the bottom of the touchscreen when your car is parked. Set Keep Climate On to DOG, make adjustments within temperature limits, then leave knowing your pet will stay comfortable. Dog Mode will stay on after you leave your car. If your battery reaches less than 20% charge, you will receive a notification on your mobile app.

Note: Check local laws for any restrictions on leaving pets unattended in your car.”

Who’s a good boy? That’s right, you are Elon. Let me pat you on the head and give you a treat, you big, clever weirdo.
