This is how you can see everything Google knows about you

The more you know...

Conor Heneghan

Google knows us better than we know ourselves.

You’re probably well aware of it at this stage, but we store so much personal information online these days that the Internet practically knows more about us than we know about ourselves.

Because we use it for absolutely everything, Google can track pretty much everything we do in a given day and now they’ve rolled out a tool which will allow you to see it for yourself and edit where appropriate.

The My Activity tool keeps a record of all of your Google searches, all of the videos you watched, every time you used Google Maps and more.

All of this is designed to help customise and tailor the experience for each individual Google profile, of course.

But if you find it a little too off-putting you can manage it to, for example, delete history by day or by topic, turn off your location history and disable the storing of your web and app activity.

It can be a little disconcerting for some people that there’s a visible record of so much of their daily activities, but, if managed appropriately on an individual basis, it can prove a useful tool too.

You can find out more information on how Google manages your data here.
