Including an ability to retweet yourself. You heard us.
The ability to retweet and quote your own tweets is just one of a number of changes being introduced by Twitter that have been flagged for some time but were officially announced on Tuesday.
The changes, which will come into effect in the coming months, are designed to “simplify” tweets, mostly, it would seem, by ensuring that users will be able to make the most of those vital 140 characters.
@names and media attachments will no longer count as characters in a tweet, while new tweets that begin with a username will reach all your followers, eradicating the need to include .@ at the start of a tweet.
The outstanding new feature as far as we can see is the ability for a Twitter user to retweet and quote tweet themselves so, as Twitter say themselves, “you can easily Retweet or Quote Tweet yourself when you want to share a new reflection or feel like a really good one went unnoticed”.
Twitter are notifying developers today so that everything works as it should when the changes are rolled out and the new updates should be available within the coming months.
Sounds like it’s time to start saving your best old tweets to get them ready for another runout.
