Chelsea line up bid for Championship defender

This guy has been on loan 11 times...

Chelsea are doing their utmost to prove that there is value in the transfer market, pursuing a second centre-back for a cut price fee.

After seemingly deciding against a £40m deal for John Stones, the Blues seem set to move for Reading defender Michael Hector for one tenth of the price.

The 23-year-old Jamaica international has been on loan 11 times during his career, with spells at Didcot Town, Bracknell Town and Dundalk.

At least he’ll fit in with the Blues policy of buy low, loan out, loan out again, loan out a third time, sell high.

One positive for Chelsea is Hector’s international career – if nothing else, he can at least be described as a “Copa America star” if they’re desperate to spin the move into a positive.

In fact the London-born player kept Arsenal target Edinson Cavani quiet when Jamaica were unlucky to lose to Uruguay at the tournament, while he also kept Lionel Messi off the scoresheet in the Reggae Boyz’ final group game.

Then again, he was also in the starting line-up when Reading lost 6-1 to Birmingham City in the Championship last season.
