Mo Salah vows ‘it isn’t over’ in cryptic tweet after Egypt’s World Cup exit

Many believe this is a response to claims he's set to quit international football

Mo Salah’s World Cup is over

Egypt’s first appearance at the tournament in nearly 30 years saw them lose all three of their Group A matches to Uruguay, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Salah missed the opening game against Uruguay following the shoulder injury he picked up in the Champions League final against Real Madrid at the end of May. Although he scored in Egypt’s other two games, he was powerless to prevent their elimination from the tournament.

Having since returned to Cairo with the rest of his national side, Salah confused many of his followers on Twitter by sending a cryptic tweet on Sunday evening.

‘Some might think it’s over but it isn’t over,’ Salah vowed. ‘There needs to be change.’

Although it’s unclear at this stage what his tweet is referring to, some have suggested it may be a response to reports suggesting he may be considering retiring from international football.

Reports have claimed Salah felt “used” politically by the country’s football association and was angered by events at his side’s World Cup camp in Grozny, Chechnya.

Salah was also said to be considering leaving Egypt’s World Cup camp early, although did move to clarify this was not the case.
