We take it for granted that amusement parks are safe. Even when the rides themselves are billed as perilous, we assume that they’ve been tested hundreds of times over.
But it is easy to forget that you can’t really be that safe when you’re being thrown through the air at massive speeds by equipment that is probably a few years old.
So when something goes wrong, it tends to go massively wrong – like what happened when a cable snapped on this giant slingshot ride in France resulting in a woman on board suffering a broken leg.
