Marvel has a bit of an issue hanging on to its directors at the moment.
Jon Favreau directed the first two Iron Men movies before bailing to make the live-action Jungle Book movie. Joss Whedon recently announced that after making the first two Avengers movies, he was jumping ship entirely to make a Batgirl movie for DC and Warner Bros.
Most of the rest of the directors have only hung around for one movie, except for The Russo Brothers, who directed Captain America: The Winter Solider and Civil War, and are currently working on Avengers: Infinity War.
However, all eyes are currently on writer/director James Gunn as he is about to release the sequel to his own much-loved Guardians Of The Galaxy. Early word on the movie has it being the best Marvel movie to date, and with the movie set to hit Irish cinemas on 28 April, the worldwide press tour has begun and pretty much everyone wants to know whether or not he’ll be back for Vol.3
To answer that, rather than having to answer it eternally during the interviews for the second movie, he took to Facebook to make the announcement:
His full heartfelt answer is above, but basically the highlight is:
“So, yes, I’m returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula – and some of the other forthcoming heroes – goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And, like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect.”
There you have it, Guardians fans. We’ll be in safe hands for a while yet.
