“I always tell the truth. Even when I lie.”
A few weeks ago, we brought you the news that Rogue One star Diego Luna was going to pick up Tony Montana’s chainsaw and mountain of cocaine, but it appears that the remake of a remake of a remake has found its director.
Over the last few months, the director’s chair has become something of a revolving door with Jonathan Herman (Straight Outta Compton), Pablo Larrain (No) and Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) all involved in some capacity at one point or another.
Well, it appears the producers have decided that David Ayer (End of Watch, Fury, Suicide Squad) will be the man behind the lens in the latest reimagining of Tony Montana’s story, as reported by Deadline.
Ok, Suicide Squad was pretty woeful but Ayer seems like he could be a good fit for the material. End of Watch was a superb film that captured the criminal life while Fury focused on one of Ayer’s central motifs, men cracking up under pressure when they’re in a situation that’s over their head.
The new version of Scarface will be set in Los Angeles, with a script by the Coen brothers.
Next up for Ayer is Netflix’s Bright starring Will Smith as a Los Angeles Police Department police officer who teams up with an Orc cop in a world that’s populated by humans and mythical creatures.
