Lovely moment for the King in the North.
Obligatory spoiler alert for anyone in the realm that hasn’t seen the latest episode of Game of Thrones.
Much like every good romance that you’re hoping to see develop on screen, the potential relationship* between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen didn’t get off to the best of starts.
*Let’s just ignore the fact that they’re aunt and nephew for now.
Regardless of what shape or form their alliance takes, Dany’s insistence that Jon must ‘bend the knee’ didn’t go down too well with the Lord of Winterfell. Then again, the King in the North was also pretty stubborn when he refused to acknowledge the oath that Torrhen Stark made to Aegon I.
Thank got that Tyrion and the utterly brilliant Ser Davos were on hand to smooth things over between the pair.
In Game of Thrones, we’ve frequently seen some ominous foreshadowing and moments of poetic justice occur, and this was very prominent in two poignant scenes that featured Jon Snow.
After Missandei’s extremely long introduction to Dany and her ever-expanding list of titles, the conversation got a little bit heated as the Mother of Dragons proclaimed the reasons why she believes she’s born to rule the Seven Kingdoms.
Rather than speak out of turn, Ser Davos interjected with a few lines about Jon’s impressive achievements in The North.
It appears that the loyalty, devotion and the respect that Jon inspires in his troops has been seen by another famous military figure, his natural father, Rhaegar Targaryen – Dany’s older brother.
There was another lovely reference to Jon’s Targaryen lineage during the scene when he’s talking with Daenerys as they’re both gazing over the Dragonstone skyline.
Before we discuss that chat, cast your mind back to a scene between Daenerys and Ser Barristan Selmy during their time together in Meereen.
Being curious about the brother that she barely knew, Dany asked her loyal adviser and protector about Rhaegar’s personality. As you may know, Ser Barristan Selmy served in the Kingsguard of Dany’s father and knew her family very well.
To her surprise, Dany discovered that her elder brother wasn’t the brutish and violent killer that he was portrayed to be. In fact, his preferred hobby was singing.
After the most recent episode, we now know that Jon Snow isn’t too fond of killing and fighting also.
It appears that Jon has more in common with his biological father than he knows.
