Ace Ventura is being rebooted

Paul Moore

Alllllllllrighty then!

I’m looking for Ray Finkle…and a clean pair of shorts. Well, we’re not sure if the world’s most famous pet detective ever did get those shorts, but he is getting a new adaptation.  Morgan Creek Productions, the company that made the original, is changing its name to Morgan Creek Entertainment Group as they aim to expand across television, features and digital.

Regarding Snowflake the dolphin’s best friend, the company has said that any Ace Venture reboot will not be a “straight remake but a new movie in the spirit of the original, part of Morgan Creek’s strategy to honor its library properties with the new takes without undercutting them. Because it’s episodic in nature, about a pet detective, it also lends itself to a traditional single-camera series franchise.

Regarding Jim Carrey’s return to those Hawaiian shirts that he made so famous, it’s looking highly unlikely. MCEG president David Robinson has said that he envisages any new reboot is “a baton-handing.”

Deadline has reported that the new film may revolve around “a long-lost son or daughter of Ace possibly showing up at his doorstep and taking over.!

This isn’t the only film that the company is looking to reboot, Morgan Creek also holds the rights to Young Guns, Dead Ringers, Major League, Diabolique, Pacific Heights and Clive Barker’s Nightbreed.

It would be one holy testicle Tuesday if Carrey announced his return to the character that we all love so much, but maybe someone should give him a call and see what the story is.

Your number’s still 911? All righty then.

In the immortal words of Dan Marino: “You’re a weird guy, Ace. A weird guy.” We would love to see his return.
