This is going to be epic!
While the festive period brought some incredibly lazy moments in front of the TV, there was something missing. Well, more than one thing was missing!
The lack of murderers, violence, serial killers, mystery, menace, kidnap and the finest coat in all of London was noticeable but fear not because in 2018, DCI John Luther will be filming a new season and we’re absolutely pumped for what’s in store.
With a new show, Hard Sun, to promote, writer Neil Cross was more than happy to answer a few questions about the future of Idris Elba’s beloved detective.
With rumours of a film gathering pace, we’re promised ‘one more really big series’ before any possible big screen adaptation although Cross isn’t sure about the show’s future just yet.
Speaking with Digital Spy, he said: ‘Idris and I talked seriously about what we wanted to do, and what I can say is that season five is huge. It’s going to be the biggest we’ve done. We’re really excited by the script, and the story – and Idris and I are very aware that whenever we’ve done another series, we’re like, “That’s it”. ‘Idris has a big career. And we leave and then we all start missing it in a couple of weeks, and I start stockpiling Luther ideas and making Luther notes. And we know that we always come back – so we want to come back and do one more really big series. ‘What happens after that, we haven’t decided…’
Regarding the next macabre mystery for DCI Luther to investigate, Cross was coy about a certain redhead returning to the show.
“I don’t think I can say anything about who’s coming back, but it’s written, we’re casting now, we’re in pre-production now and we start shooting in January. So hopefully it will be back next year – late next year,” he said.
Somehow, we don’t think Luther that will be on his own in this next season.
