Fits the bill.
Given the fact that the Men in Black franchise has made no secret about its plans to reboot the films, we’ve no qualms about some new agents stepping into those black suits.
We already knew that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones weren’t going to be involved with the new MIB film, but with Gary Gray (The Fate Of The Furious, Straight Outta Compton) attached to direct, we’re quietly confident that there’s still some intergalactic life left in the franchise.
This being said, the original film was a cult-classic because it nailed one important aspect, casting.
By placing Will Smith’s infectious energy next to Tommy Lee Jones’ cranky and stone-faced demeanour, the studio struck box-office gold.
Regarding the next batch of agents, The Wrap have reported that Chris Hemsworth is the preferred leading man for the upcoming MIB reboot. The Australian actor seems like the perfect fit for this role because he’s more than capable of handling the physicality of any stunts and as his showed in Ghostbusters and Thor: Ragnarok, he’s a skilled comedic performer too.
Regarding the plot, little is know apart from the fact that the film will follow a new pair of agents who work for the secretive New York agency that defends Earth from hostile aliens and helps friendly ones blend into human society. The Wrap have also reported that the MIB reboot is being compared to Jurassic World because the studio wants to take the series in a “newer, bigger direction while giving a nod to the previous films and characters in the series”
The script is written by Iron Man scribes Matt Holloway & Art Marcum and it’s set to be released on June 14, 2019.
