Genuinely can’t wait for this. The original is a cult-classic
Despite the incredible action, witty one-liners and epic finale, plenty of people were wondering about the same thing as the credits for Avengers: Infinity War rolled.
Where’s Korg?
Of course, film fans will know that the breakout star of Thor: Ragnarok is probably off somewhere trying to start a revolution but forgetting to bring any pamphlets, but in real life, the supremely talented Taika Waititi is a very busy man.
After directing Thor’s latest standalone adventure, the New Zealander is developing his new film, Jojo Rabbit, with Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson. Aside from this, the director of Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople is also developing a TV show that’s based on his beloved comedy, What We Do in the Shadows.
Of course, we knew this from a few months ago after Kayvan Novak (Danger Mouse, Thunderbirds Are Go), Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, Toast of London), Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends) and Harvey Guillen (The Thundermans, The Internship) were all cast, but new details have emerged.
Deadline now reports that after seeing the pilot, FX has given the series a full 10-episode season order. Clement will write while Waititi is set to direct, with both serving as executive producers.
We also know that the series will move the setting from Wellington, New Zealand to New York City as documentary crews follow a new trio of vampires as they deal with the typical mundanities of living with roommates in the big city.
Deadline state that : “Novak will play Nandor, the head vampire of the house. Berry plays Lazslo, the goofiest in the house, the type of vampire who turns into a bat and flies into a wall. Demetriou plays Nadja, the badass female vampire of the house. Guillen is believed to play Nandor’s assistant.”
Given the fact that Clement and Waititi starred in the original, we’re also hoping to see Vladislav and Viago reunite.
FYI, if you haven’t seen What We Do In The Shadows then you really need to finish reading this article, leave your work/college and go home.
The fictional documentary chronicles the adventures of four vampire roommates that are trying to get by in a modern world that’s not always hospitable to the undead. Imagine the documentary style of This is Spinal Tap and Borat, but mixed with the surreal and absurd comedy of Father Ted and Flight of the Conchords.
Oh yeah, it also has vampires.
Clement and Waititi co-wrote, co-directed, and co-star in this hilarious send-up where an endearingly uncool quartet of friends reveal to us or, rather, to the documentary crew that’s filming them, the details of their nightly routine. Ranging in age from 183 to 8,000, these mates squabble over household chores, struggle to keep up with the latest trends in technology and fashion, piss off the local werewolves (they’re not swear-wolves) visit clubs to pick up some ladies, and deal with the rigours of living on a very, very strict diet.
During a recent interview with JOE, Waititi gave a few details about the highly anticipated spin-off from What We Do in the Shadows, We’re Wolves.
Regarding the spiritual sequel, he said: “I think we’ve written three pages over the last two years! The first one (What We Do in the Shadows) took us about six years to do. This one, we’re hoping to get done a lot quicker. Actually, after this (Thor press junket) we’re hoping to get together and carve out some time to finish the script.”
Waititi also announced that a TV show called Paranormal Event Response Unit was in the works, focusing on the inept cops that featured in What We Do in the Shadows.
Ok, we know that Waititi is incredibly busy but is there also any chance that Korg can return to the MCU? Even so he can say “piss off, ghost!” and leave?
In Taika we trust.
