Zombieland is such a great little film
The undead comedy came early in the 00s zombie revival and brought a fresh and funny spin on the genre. Instead of being set during the outbreak like a lot of zombie films, it instead takes place long after society has broken down. A pre-The Social Network Jesse Einsenberg roams the United States and runs into Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, all of whom are far more competent at killing zombies than him, and hijinks quickly ensue.
The ending of the movie seemed perfectly set for a follow-up. A pilot was made by Amazon for TV series, but it was ultimately not picked up, and all the main roles were recast anyway.
However, back in May, we got the good news that a sequel was coming – original co-writer Paul Wernick confirmed that Zombieland 2 is on the way – with all the original cast coming back.
But now, as reported by Comic Book, it sounds like shooting will begin on the film on January 28th.
It will shoot under the very original title of Zombieland Too, and is due to be released on October 11th, 2019.
A brief plot synopsis has also been published on Geeks Worldwide, which suggest that Woody Harrelson and co will face off against “Super-zombies”.
“The group will face a new zombie threat as a new breed of zombie has developed,” the synopsis reads. “This new super-zombie type is faster, bigger, and stronger than the previous strain of zombies and harder to kill. These super-zombies have started grouping up into a horde going from city to city leaving a path of destruction behind them.”
The film will shoot in Atlanta and Tennesse.
Woody Harrelson, Jesse Einsenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin are all due to return for the sequel, along with original director Reuben Fleischer. No word if we’ll get another Bill Murray cameo, though.
