Tom Cruise confirms two new Mission Impossible films to be shot back-to-back

Tom Cruise has confirmed that the seventh and eighth instalment of the Mission Impossible series are set to be filmed and released in the next two years

Tom Cruise today confirmed that two more Mission Impossible films will be coming in the next couple of years, with the seventh and eighth instalments of the action movie series due to come out in 2020 and 2021.

By the team the eighth comes out, Cruise will be just short of his 60th birthday, but despite his age he refuses to stop jumping from rooftop to rooftop, defeating bad guys to save the day in various versions of the same film.

Cruise will shoot Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 back to back with director Christopher McQuarrie, who also directed the last two entries: 2015’s Rogue Nation and 2018’s Fallout, which was the most successful film in the franchise’s history.

Before filming the two new additions to the M:I series, Cruise will return to play the role of Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick, set for release in 2020.
