Sterling was one of many to condemn Grealish’s attacker
Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has condemned the attack on Jack Grealish during the Second City Derby on Sunday afternoon and hit out at the “idiot” responsible for it.
Grealish was attacked by a Birmingham City supporter less than 10 minutes into Villa’s game with their rivals at St. Andrew’s. The fan was seen running onto the pitch towards Grealish and punching him in the back of the head.
Immediately after the incident, he was grabbed by a steward and surrounded by almost the entire Aston Villa team, who were clearly furious at what they had just witnessed.
After seeing the incident Sterling took to Twitter to criticise the man responsible for it, describing him as an “idiot”
“Idiot of the year…. congrats on your lifetime ban,” said the England international.

Police at the stadium confirmed after the game that the attacker had been arrested, saying “A man has been arrested and is en route to the custody block”.
Reaction to the attack has been universally scathing and has seen a number of responses, from calling for a lifetime ban, as Sterling has done, or calling for a strong punishment on the club itself in a bid to deter repeat attacks in future, as suggested by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.
