Ready or not, Christmas is coming and it is time to get ready
You are an adult. Yet you still want an advent calendar, because you are actually a little child inside. And while it is not really acceptable for you to have a traditional chocolate advent calendar, there is the grown-up answer – the cheese advent calendar.
The cheese advent calendar has become somewhat of a tradition now, and it is back for 2020. The advent calendar was initially dreamt up by food blogger Annem Hobson in 2016, with a home-made prototype.

Now the 2020 edition has been revealed, and it is better than ever. It includes five new kinds of cheese, including vintage and aged varieties.
Types of cheese in the calendar include Applewood, Applewood Vintage PDO Aged for 12 months, Ilchester Derby with Sage, Ilchester Mature Cheddar, Ilchester Vintage PDO Cheddar, Ilchester Double Gloucester, Ilchester Red Leicester, and Ilchester Aged Red Leicester.
And if you want something a little bit spicier to mix, there is also Mexicana, a cheese that combines “a fiery mix of bell, jalapeño and chilli peppers, carefully blended with traditional British Cheddar and a secret mix of Mexican spices.”
The cheese advent calendar will be available at the beginning of November. Stockist in the UK includes Sainsbury’s, Lidl, Morrisons, Waitrose, Ocado, Booths and Amazon UK.
For our international readers, the advent calendar will also be available in Europe, the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Check out Annem Hobson’s website for more information on where to get it from in those regions.

Cheese fans have obviously been very excited by the news.
“Holy Cheesus! I “liked” this video more than I like to admit.” said one Instagram commenter. “Can’t wait to get my Cheesemas calendar!”
“So exciting!!” said another.
The repsonse on Twitter was similar.
You have single-handedly saved what’s left of 2020! I hope I can get my hands on one before they sell out! ???

“The Cheese Advent Calendar has reached goals I could only dream of!” Hobson says on her site. “From outselling chocolate at major retailers, to continuing to retail in more and more countries each year. The response from fans – many of whom have followed since day one – has been phenomenal. I’m thrilled to launch a new and improved version of the Cheese Advent Calendar based on feedback from the loyal cheese-loving community!”
