It might be controversial to say it, but honestly, this is better than the John Lewis Christmas ad.
You can’t turn on the TV these days without seeing a Christmas ad and though they all have their charms, they all seem to subscribe to a certain formula.
A few scenes with the family gathered around the Christmas table, maybe a relative coming home and, in what now seems to be absolute must, a slow-paced version of a popular song designed to tug at the heartstrings.
The heartstrings are most certainly tugged at in an ad for the Spanish National Lottery that’s currently going viral, but there’s nothing artificial about it whatsoever.
And don’t worry, you don’t need a lick of Spanish to understand it.
The ad follows the life of Justino, who works the lonely night shift in a mannequin factory yet makes it his business each night to provide some entertainment for the day staff when they arrive in the morning.
We won’t spoil it for you, but in four minutes, we can almost guarantee that you will become emotionally attached to the main character and the ending is just pure gold.
Chopped onions might be causing some tears in our eye while watching it, but that’s what we call a Christmas ad.
