Apparently, the burger is a “Sink-your-teeth-in (and wipe-your-mouth) kind of sandwich”.
Mcdonald’s has finally released a meat-free burger and claims that it tastes “just like beef”.
The McPlant burger is already on sale throughout the franchise’s foreign stores, but its vegan burger has finally reached the UK.
McDonald’s has partnered with US company Beyond Meat, a brand familiar to vegetarians and vegans within UK supermarkets.
The burger reportedly has the same texture and flavour as real beef.
The fast-food chain is hoping to target not only vegetarians but also those looking to reduce their meat intake.
Mcdonald’s has described the McPlant as delivering “our iconic taste in a sink-your-teeth-in (and wipe-your-mouth) kind of sandwich”.
They continued: “It’s made with a juicy, plant-based patty and served on a warm, sesame seed bun with all the classic toppings.”
McDonald’s are scrambling to keep up with the growing demand for vegetarian and vegan options. Most recently, competitors Burger King opened a pop-up vegetarian-only store in Germany. This was part of a larger vegetarian scheme where CEO Alasdair Murdoch hopes to make the menu largely meat-free by 2030.
Fast food’s move towards more sustainable food options is part of a wider conversation surrounding meat consumption here in the UK. In August, co-founder of Leon Restaurants and the Sustainable Restaurant Association Henry Dimbleby told Sky News we needed to reduce our meat consumption by 30 per cent to reach our carbon targets.
He said that “cutting out the processed stuff” is the key step in making this crucial change. He also continued to say that for those still not sold on an entirely vegetarian or vegan diet, “we can still have the roast chicken, the steak and the things we really love”.
