Turns out giving everyone’s most hated machine a festive makeover doesn’t make anyone like it better.
Tesco’s self-service machines have made many enemies since their introduction around a decade ago because of their fondness for shouting about unexpected items.
Well now, in an effort to make the self-service experience more pleasant, the supermarket has called upon the cheery talents of Santa.

But, it turns out, people don’t like festive cheer when they’re stressed.
In fact, people have been resoundingly Grinchy about it.
The self service till at tesco today said merry Christmas. I did not like it.

Tesco self service now has a voice recording of Santa yelling "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!" when you take your items. I don't need this.

I've had to stop going to Tesco because the self-service machines keep yelling "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" at me and it sounds a bit threatening.

@jamescnicholls I'm sorry you do not like the festive message on our self service tills James. I'd like to record your feedback. (1)
