Crimes linked to Tinder and Grindr have increased hugely in the last two years

The number of alleged crimes that potentially involve dating apps has soared in the UK, rising to more than seven times what it was two years ago.

Metro reports that figures released to the Press Association under the Freedom of Information Act indicate there were just 55 reports of crime which mentioned Grindr and Tinder in England and Wales in 2013.

A year later, the figure had climbed to 204, before rising to 412 in October 2015.

The reports of crimes included rape and attempted murder, with most of the alleged crimes being either violent (253 reports) or sexual (152) in nature.

It’s worth pointing out that although the apps were mentioned in the reported crimes, it doesn’t mean that they were directly used by the alleged criminals.

Some might point to the fact that the growth in reported crime linked to such apps is in correlation with their growth in popularity, but regardless of this, it’s still a worrying trend.
