British intelligence agency MI5 have been named the top employer for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff in the UK.
Gay rights group Stonewall conducted a survey of over 400 employers in order to find the UK’s most inclusive workplace.
More than 60,000 people responded to the Workplace Equality Index survey, the highest amount since it was launched in 2005.
Participants were asked if they were comfortable disclosing their sexual orientation at work as well as being quizzed on the prominence of visible LGBT role models within the organisation.
MI5 director general Alan Parker praised announcement, saying: “Much of MI5’s work keeping the country safe goes on by necessity out of view, so I’m delighted we can be publicly recognised as such an inclusive and welcoming place to work.”
The top five is rounded out by Lloyds Banking Group, the National Assembly for Wales, social housing provider B3Living and law firm Pinsent Masons.
