Two of Eastenders’ biggest stars are getting a spin-off show

This should be interesting.

Spin off shows can be so hit and miss.

For every spin-off hit like Frasier, there’s dozens of stinkers that completely miss the mark and probably should have been killed at birth.

Yet whenever a popular show spins off we just have to watch out of morbid curiosity – just like when Joey got his own show after Friends or Better Call Saul emerged from the ashes of Breaking Bad.

But knowing that TV producers will try and cash in on the success of most shows by creating an ill-conceived off-shoot, we were surprised at this.

Two of Eastenders‘ biggest stars are being given their own spin off show from the long-running BBC soap.

Kat Slater and Alfie Moon (played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie) are set to star in a six-part drama special which sees them travel to Ireland in search of  her long-lost child, according to Radio Times.

Redwater is the name of the spin-off show and also the Irish harbour village where the pair travel to in search of Kat’s lost son

But it seems that their quest stirs up some trouble and uncovers some secrets that the local Kelly and Dolan families, who live in the seaside village, would rather left buried.

Indications are that the new drama could be good with some TV heavyweights working on the production including ex-Eastenders writers on board; including Life on Mars creator Matthew Graham, Julie Dixon and Lauren Klee.

Danish director Jesper Nielsen, who is known for his work on acclaimed political drama Borgen, said:

“We have a really important and fantastic story to tell. About how one woman’s search for a lost child opens Pandora’s box; revealing the terrible lies and secrets in the little village of Redwater.

“A story about how the strong bonds of love in a family can hold everything together, and yet at the same time – destroy everything.”

Filming has concluded on Redwater and it looks set to air on BBC1 in 2017.
