Of course you want to see Danny Dyer as Maverick from Top Gun

He looks the part.

Tom Victor

Danny Dyer is a man of many talents.

The ‘EastEnders’ actor has sidelines in football foul-up compilations, real football factories documentaries and football hooliganism films. How’s that for versatility?

He’s also great at Twitter. Oh, and did we mention he’s related to royalty.

So, when Children in Need were looking for someone to replicate the iconic role of Top Gun‘s ‘Maverick’ ahead of this year’s fundraiser, they could only really choose one man. Even if that man has struggled with identifying a ‘Goose’ (sorry).

Dyer looks the part in the get-up immortalised by Tom Cruise in the 80s classic, which commemorated its 30th anniversary just last month (if that doesn’t make you feel old, nothing will).

Few can rock the jacket, helmet and shades as well as the man who brought us such classics as ‘Can’t believe it’s been nearly 11 years since them slags smashed into the twin towers it still freaks my nut out to this day’.

The BBC have released a 30-second teaser clip of Dyer in full costume, complete with Berlin’s ‘Take My Breath Away’ playing in the background and a cameo from Children in Need mascot Pudsey.

What will the finished product look like? We’ll have to wait and see.
